Melissa J Webb

Melissa has over 25 years of clinical practice in Trauma Physiotherapy at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where she currently work as the Trauma Allied Health Team Leader. Within her current role she has assisted in the development and co-ordination of a specialised allied health workforce providing an intensive therapy model of care for acute trauma and orthopaedic patients on the dedicated trauma ward. Her special interests include chest trauma management, trauma models of care and the role of physiotherapy and allied health within the acute trauma multidisciplinary team. Melissa is passionate about promoting and advocating for the important role that Physiotherapy and Allied Health play in trauma management and patient recovery; and is a Board Member of the Australian & New Zealand Trauma Society, Chest Wall Injury Society and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Trauma Verification subcommittee. Her most recent role leading the Physiotherapy Trauma Tertiary survey project, explores top of scope opportunities for experienced specialist trauma physiotherapists within a major trauma service to address service gaps and improve patient care. Melissa has completed a Masters in Health Science, Graduate Certificate in Burn and Trauma Rehabilitation and a number of dedicated trauma professional development courses. She has also completed a clinical fellowship analysing the practice of physiotherapists in major trauma centres in the US, Germany and Switzerland. She is currently an NTRI Research Fellow and is undertaking a PhD through Monash University investigating the utility and performance of the tertiary survey in modern trauma care.
